Guidance Activities
In addition to supporting the academic, personal
and social needs of our students, the guidance
department organizes several activities throughout
the school year. Here are some of the things
you can look forward to this year:
Transition
Middle school counselors play a crucial role
in the transition of elementary students to
the middle school and of middle school students
to the high school. These transition activities
include visits to elementary schools, sixth
grade tour day, and grade 6 parent night. The
transition from 8th grade includes a visit from
the high school to discuss the course selection
process, and a grade 8 parent meeting.
Red Ribbon Day Events:
Red Ribbon Day promotes a drug, alcohol and
violence free safe zone for kids. Activities
such as an assembly, with Camfel Productions,
and a door decorating contest for students.
Red ribbon stickers are distributed at lunch,
week long dress-up day to support drug awareness
slogans.
Peer Mediation:
Peer Mediators are trained to help students
resolve peer conflicts. Mediators are trained
both at the beginning of their seventh grade
year and the beginning of 8th grade. Students
can be referred for mediation by a teacher,
administrator, counselor or they can refer themselves.
Please contact your guidance counselor if you
have questions.
