New Years Resolutions
Gillian
Lyons
On January 1, 2012 everyone in the country will
have the chance to set a new standard for themselves
by which they are going to live. These are referred
to as New Year's resolutions. People make them
simply to set a goal for themselves. Ever since
you were little I am sure you have been taught
that setting goals for yourself is a one way
to have a great life. When you strive for something,
you can achieve higher than you usually would
just going through life with no goals or dreams.
Resolutions are very important to most people
but do most stick to them after a few weeks
pass by?
Like every where in the country, Saugus High's
students and faculty have set high goals for
themselves with which they hope to stick until
the beginning of next year. They range from
weight loss to winning a world championship.
We interviewed students from all different cliques
and grades to find out what standards they set
for themselves for the upcoming year.

Bobby Moore, a senior, decided he wanted
to be voted the sexiest man on the planet.
This was one of the more reasonable resolutions
and I'm sure he'll achieve it! Bianca Faysal,
a sophomore, set a goal for herself to try
and be less crazy. If you knew Bianca, you'd
just say "good luck" in the most
sarcastic way possible. Most students consider
her "crazy with a big attitude."
At least she has high hopes! Kristina Almquist,
a freshman, wants to improve her math grade.
Typical of a freshman to say...of course they
want to get good grades for the start of their
high school career! Julia Daly, also a freshman,
wants to start going to church more. I have
faith in her.
Administrators and faculty have more reasonable
resolutions that you can tell they thought
long and hard about. Mr. Merrill, assistant
principal, wants to "slow down."
Taking life too seriously or for granted will
just make you stressed out so if you don't
have a goal, you might want to think about
this. Just enjoy the simple things in life.
Ms. Topham, a math teacher, decided she wants
to have more fun this year. Traveling? She
thinks this will be a good way to accomplish
her goal. Michelle, a cafeteria employee,
is striving to lose thirty pounds as soon
as possible. This doesn't make sense because
she looks healthy and skinny already, but
if that's what she wants to do, who's to stop
her?!
All of these people deserve to be noticed
for at least having a goal. It really doesn't
matter if they accomplish them or not. As
long as they tried, there are no regrets.
Good for them for taking the time and effort
to set goals for themselves that they hope
to achieve. Most think they can do it but
I guess we will just have to wait and see
what comes about in the New Year!
